TARGET
The 8 minutes laptime on the Sport Auto testpart of the Nordschleife has been regarded by some as an interesting benchmark especialy to attack it with a roadcar on as low as possible buildingcost.

The Nordschleife is known as a nonforgiving track and has to be taken seriously. To explore the feasability of the target a more modest target is sighted first: BtG8

1. BtG 8'00"
This BtG, which means Bridge to Gantry, is the part from the Bridge before Tiergarten to the Gantry on the Döttinger Höhe, two known markingpoints on the Nordschleife.

Length of this part of the Nordschleife is 19,150 km and, when driven in less than 8 minutes, this equals an average speed of nearly 144 kmh.
Carcostbudget for buying a car and modest modifications is estimated at this time between € 8.000 and € 9.000,-

2. NS 8'00"
When the BtG8 would be realized the next target could be driving the Supertesttrack of Sport Auto, being 20,600 km, in less than 8'00", which equals an average speed of nearly 155 km/h.
To reach this kind of drivingperformancelevel one needs power and grip.

Understandably this needs more tuning which will, inevitable raise carcostbudget drastically. To keep it below €20k would be an achievement by itself.

PROJECTINITIATOR
As a resident of Holland just over 200 km seperates me from the Nordschleife. My first introduction with the Nordschleife was in summer1970 when I accidently passed by the Nordschleife on the B258 and decided for one Touristenfahrt-lap in my 1961 VW 1200. Only from 1989 I drove my next laps in a Volvo PV544. In total some 250 laps have been driven on this track so I should know more or less which corner is to come next.

With my automotive engineering background several modern and historical roadracingbikes, race- and rallycars were tuned and raced by me, which gives me by now some understanding of the accompenying physics and mechanics, though still a lot has to be learned and experienced.
